Aberdeen is the Moore County middle ground: the lowest price level on that side of the line, still well above the Cumberland towns, with a commute that falls between Southern Pines and Pinehurst, and a combined tax rate higher than both of those neighbors. Fort Liberty was the installation’s name from June 2, 2023 until the 2025 redesignation. The name now is Fort Bragg.

Name dates: June 2, 2023 ceremony and 2025 redesignation.

A railroad town, in the town’s own description

The town describes itself as a railroad town with a National Register historic district of antiques, collectibles, art exhibits, gift shops, and cafes. Town Hall, 115 North Poplar Street, ZIP 28315, is the address the drive is measured from.

The museum keeps appointment hours

The Union Station Railroad Museum, 100 East Main Street, is open by appointment, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays. Those are museum hours, separate from the Monday 7:00 a.m. drive.

A commute between two neighbors

From Town Hall to Yadkin Road, Gate 4, is 30.6 miles via Manchester Road and Raeford-Vass Road. For a Monday departure at 7:00 a.m. on October 5, 2026, the typical range is 40 to 50 minutes. Southern Pines, measured from Weymouth Woods, is 26.7 miles and 30 to 45 minutes. Pinehurst, measured from Village Hall, is 33.9 miles and 45 to 60 minutes. Aberdeen’s range overlaps both: it starts after Southern Pines’ floor and ends before Pinehurst’s ceiling. On miles it sits between them, closer to Pinehurst than to Southern Pines.

The range excludes the ID check. Gate 4 is open 24 hours. Gate 18 on Manchester Road is 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. on weekdays only. The route can use Manchester Road and still end at Yadkin Road. Yadkin is expected to take added traffic while Gate 5 stays closed, from 5 a.m. on July 27, 2026, for up to 24 months.

A Moore tax rate that is not the low one

0.7525 per $100 is county 0.29 plus ALS 0.0425 plus town 0.42. The town rate is higher than Southern Pines (0.29) and Pinehurst (0.22), so the sum sits above both and still under the Cumberland combined rates. The chart does not print the total. Assessed value is not a sale price.

Lowest on the Moore side, still above Cumberland

This is the lowest Moore price level and still well above the Cumberland towns. The band is all improved property, not the Cumberland single-family filter. ZIP 28315 is in NC182. BAH follows duty-station ZIP 28310.

Sales: Moore layer, town code AB, pulled 2026-10-03. DoD BAH 2026, ZIP map checked 2026-10-04.

Schools

Aberdeen is Moore County Schools. The assigned school follows the address. Confirm it with the district. The Cumberland school-choice calendar is for Cumberland residents. Fort Bragg Schools are for families living on post, and the on-post district high school is E.E. Smith High.

Kindergarten cutoff for the public schools in this move is age 5 on or before August 31. Fort Bragg Schools use September 1. High schools across the area run a 4x4 schedule. Military families moving to Fort Bragg may begin public-school enrollment remotely before residency. Those three rules apply in every Moore town on this site.

Who it suits

Aberdeen suits a Moore County move that wants the lowest price level on that side without taking Pinehurst’s full hour, and that can accept a higher summed tax rate than Southern Pines or Pinehurst. It is a poor fit when the comparison is only “cheaper than Pinehurst” and the household still needs a Cumberland-length morning. Forty to fifty minutes is not Hope Mills, and it is not Spring Lake. It is also a poor fit if the historic-district description is being read as a statement about recorded sale prices. The band and the downtown sentence come from different sources.

Nearby alternatives

Southern Pines is the shorter Moore drive, 30 to 45 minutes, with a lower summed tax rate and a price level about double the Cumberland towns.

Pinehurst is the longer Moore drive, 45 to 60 minutes, the lowest tax rate in the set, and the highest upper end of the price band.

Fayetteville is the south-gate city, 14 to 26 minutes to Yadkin Road, at a higher tax rate and a much lower single-family price level.

Hope Mills is the Cumberland lake town, with a Yadkin drive in the high teens to high twenties and a higher combined rate than Fayetteville.

Spring Lake is the north-gate town: 5 to 7 minutes to Honeycutt Road, the lowest price level of the six, and the highest combined tax rate.
