Southern Pines is the clearest Moore County trade: prices about double the Cumberland towns, 30 to 45 minutes to a 24-hour gate, and a much lower tax rate. Older forms may still say Fort Liberty. The duty station is Fort Bragg.
The clock starts at a longleaf preserve
Weymouth Woods Sandhills Nature Preserve is both the drive origin and the place named here: longleaf pine in Moore County, 35 miles northwest of Fayetteville, no day-use fee. The directions address is 1024 Fort Bragg Road, Southern Pines 28387.

Why the time goes to Yadkin Road, not Manchester Road
From the preserve to the Yadkin Road access control point is 26.7 miles via Manchester Road and Raeford-Vass Road. For a Monday departure at 7:00 a.m. on October 5, 2026, the typical range is 30 to 45 minutes. The ID check is not included. Gate 4, Yadkin Road, is open 24 hours.
Gate 18, Manchester Road, is open only 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. on weekdays and is closed weekends and federal holidays, so this time goes to 24-hour Yadkin Road instead. The route still uses Manchester Road. Using the road is not the same as using Gate 18. Yadkin is also expected to take added traffic while Gate 5 stays closed, from 5 a.m. on July 27, 2026, for up to 24 months.

A summed tax rate, and a district rate that is not the town rate
The figure used here is 0.6225 per $100 of assessed value. It is the sum of county general 0.29, ALS 0.0425, and town 0.29. The Moore County chart lists those pieces and does not print a combined total, so the sum is labeled as a sum. Assessed value is not a sale price.
A municipal service district rate of 0.55 applies only inside that district. It is not inside the 0.6225. Pinehurst’s sum is lower. Aberdeen’s is higher. Cumberland’s published combined rates are higher still, and they exclude storm water, solid waste, refuse, recycling, and transit or auto privilege taxes.

About double, and a band that mixes property types
Southern Pines is about double the Cumberland towns. The lower edge of the band matches Pinehurst. Pinehurst runs higher at the top of the band. Aberdeen is the lowest Moore price level and is still well above the Cumberland towns.
The band is all improved property. Condos and townhomes are not split out, so it is not the same mix as a Cumberland single-family band. ZIP 28387 is in NC182. BAH follows duty-station ZIP 28310, not the higher price level.

Moore County Schools
The school system is Moore County Schools. Students attend where they reside. Confirm the school by address with the district. This is not Cumberland County Schools, and it is not the Cumberland K-12 choice program. Fort Bragg Schools require living on post. E.E. Smith High is the district high school for on-post families, which a Southern Pines address is not.
Area rules that still apply here: kindergarten age 5 on or before August 31 (September 1 is the Fort Bragg Schools date), high schools on a 4x4 schedule, and remote public-school enrollment for military families moving to Fort Bragg before they establish residency. A 4x4 schedule is the mid-year question for a high schooler, separate from the 30-to-45-minute morning.

Who it suits
Southern Pines suits a household that will spend 30 to 45 minutes to reach a 24-hour gate and wants the lower Moore County tax math in return, knowing the recorded price level is about double the Cumberland towns and that the band mixes improved property types. It is a poor fit when the morning has to look like Spring Lake’s few minutes at Honeycutt Road, and when someone treats Gate 18’s weekday hours as if they covered a weekend report.
Nearby alternatives
Pinehurst shares the lower edge of the price band and then runs to the highest upper end in the set. The drive is the longest, 45 to 60 minutes, and the summed tax rate is the lowest.
Aberdeen is the other direction on the Moore clock, 40 to 50 minutes, with the lowest Moore price level, still well above Cumberland, and a higher summed tax rate than Southern Pines.
Fayetteville is the south-gate city on the Cumberland side: a 14-to-26-minute Yadkin Road range, a lower price level, a higher ordinary tax rate, and a single-family band that hides a big city.
Hope Mills stays in Cumberland, south of that city, with a lake-town setting and a Yadkin drive measured in the high teens to the high twenties.
Spring Lake is the opposite bet: Honeycutt Road in 5 to 7 minutes, the lowest price level, and the highest combined tax rate.
